Striped-Marlin Action continues during the “Off Season”.

Galapagos Marlin Fishing Report

San Cristobal Island

The striped marlin bite continues to be solid in the so called “off season” for the Galapagos Islands.  Choppier seas and less travelers heading from July to November make it the “off season”.  Tell that to the striped marlin.

They don’t seem to care and we have had excellent fishing for over 25 years just about every year in the “off season”.  Boats have been experiencing from 10 to over 20 raises last 3 weeks on 0-30 Bank, around Santa Fe Island and fishing famous Rosa Blanca Bank.

Jonahmar reported fishing Rosa Blanca around the Honey Hole on September 12, 2023 for practice with some new crew member.  They reported raising 23 striped marlin and 1 blue marlin.  Had 13 bites from striped marlin and released 4 and went 0/1 on a blue marlin estimated around 400#.

Santa Cruz Island

Patricia captain by Yuri Gutierrez fish September 11, 2023 on 0-30 Bank with a local anglers from Ecuador reported raising 15 striped marlin and 1 blue marlin.  They had 10 bites from striped marlin and released 5 and went 1/1 on a 500# blue marlin they fought on a 20# Alutecnos reel prepared for striped marlin.  Water remained 77 F throughout the bank and sea was alive with some birds diving and sea lions feeding.

Isabela Island

Last couple of week have been reporting some large blue marlin along with incredible yellowfin and bigeye tuna bite thanks to mate Oscar.  We don’t have any anglers there fishing this week but Oscar has been fishing for tuna to sell to local market and has reported seeing surface feeding striped and blue marlin amongst the tuna.

Water temperature remains about 78 F around Isabela and perfect thanks to El Niño. This late in the year it usually is at its coldest point 69 to 71 F.
