San Cristobal Island Striped Marlin Action Is Red Hot

July 18, 2023– We sent Ecuagringo Captain Julio Rodriguez to check out Rosa Blanca Bank for striped marlin on a panga along with guest favorite host Ronnie. The two had a blast fishing only two rods all day. They reported raising 27 striped marlin around the Honey Hole which was a spot made famous by Ecuagringo boats over 20 years ago. They had 18 bites and released 10 striped marlin with one fish reported over 250 pounds. 5 yellowfin tuna and 4 mahi were also caught.

Isabela Island Giant Blue Marlin Are Around

July 19, 2023– We had our Isabela Island mate Oscar (who is known in the Galapagos for hand-lining several grander blue and black marlin) go check out the waters 8 to 15 miles outside of Isabela Island. Oscar headed out on his panga with two 50# rod/reels we provided him to catch tuna and search for marlin. He reported catching 3 nice yellowfin tuna 60 to 80 pounds 15 miles out.

Around 1:30 pm he started fishing his way back and saw birds diving. He headed his panga to fish around the bait and birds dive bombing when one of the rods went off and he was hooked into a blue marlin estimated around 750 pounds. He fought the fish on standup gear for over an hour and lost it not far from the boat.
