The striped marlin activity out of San Cristobal and Santa Cruz Islands continues to be abundant in mid December. Water is still colder than normal for this time of the year but fish are biting and they are big. If you want to experience the fastest big striped marlin action in the world then the Galapagos is the place to be!
San Cristobal Island:
Anglers from mainland Ecuador have become regulars now fishing aboard the Mantarraya several times a year thanks to recommendations made by Ecuagringo and various boats in the Galapagos. This helps generate more fishing reports and keep boats busy at times when international anglers aren’t travelling as much.
The following group of guys Werner Campoverde, Bernado Vasconez, Coco Oneto and Mauricio Vernaza have become regulars fishing out of San Cristobal fished 3 days out of Dec 15 – 16 – 17 and raised over 70 striped marlin marlin with 49 bites and 14 releases. Water was averaging 73.5 F and the fished 0-30 and Española Bank.
Santa Cruz Island:
The crew of the Patricia went out for practice and new mate training. Ecuagringo is the only company that pays for boats to go out and fish for reports and mate training even when we do not have any clients fishing those days. Captain Yury Gutierrez reported December 22 fishing out of 0-30 Bank that they raised 23 striped marlin had 14 bites and released 8 striped marlin with one fish estimated around 230#.
